Harcourt Fuller, Ph.D.

Dr. Harcourt Fuller was appointed to the CCAC in 2021 based on the recommendation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Dr. Fuller is a history professor, numismatic scholar, and a producer of film and music. He is currently an Associate Professor of African and African Diaspora History at Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta. Dr. Fuller has also taught at Connecticut College, Florida International University, and Emmanuel College. He was a Visiting Researcher and Scholar at Boston University in the African Studies Center and African American Studies Program, respectively. He has also held the position of Research Assistant in the Department of Coins and Medals at the British Museum in London.

Dr. Fuller holds a Ph.D. in International History and an MSc (with Merit) in History of International Relations from the London School of Economics. He also holds a BA in International Studies, an MA in History, and a Certificate in Latin American Studies from the City College of New York. Dr. Fuller has earned several awards and fellowships throughout his career, including a Fulbright Global Scholar Award, Whiting Public Engagement Fellowship, and an Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Grant.

Dr. Fuller has been a coin and currency collector since his childhood years. He is currently a member of the American Numismatic Association (ANA) and the International Bank Note Society (IBNS). In 2021, Dr. Fuller gave a talk at the Metropolitan Coin Club of Atlanta, as well as a Money Talks presentation for the American Numismatic Society (ANS). He is the co-editor of Money in Africa (2009), and also the creator of the traveling museum exhibition, Black Money Exhibit: World Currencies Featuring African and African Diasporic History and Cultures; the Black Money Exhibit soundtrack; and the forthcoming documentary-film, Black Women on Money.

Dr. Fuller lives in Decatur, Georgia with his wife and their two daughters.
