Chairperson
Each year, in accordance with 31 U.S.C. §5135, the Secretary of the Treasury appoints one current CCAC member to serve as the CCAC Chairperson for a one-year term. The CCAC Chairperson presides at all CCAC meetings, approves the agenda in advance of each meeting, and works with the Mint and CCAC Members on matters in front of the Committee.

Qualification:
Specially qualified as a Numismatic Curator
Dr. Peter van Alfen was reappointed to the CCAC in 2024 and is currently serving a second term as the CCAC Chairperson. Dr. van Alfen holds the position of representative specially qualified as a numismatic Curator. He is the Chief Curator at the American Numismatic Society ANS). He directs the Society's flagship education program, The Eric P. Newman Summer Graduate Seminar and is the editor of the Society's quarterly ANS Magazine. Peter holds a Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Texas at Austin, a M.A. in Anthropology (Nautical Archaeology) from Texas A&M University, and a B.A. in Classics from the University of Utah.
